A Hairy Post for Spring: Hair Product Reviews

Here are three things I am not good at:

  1. Math
  2. Updating this blog
  3. Doing my hair

That last one is the reason why I am constantly searching for the best hair products. From curlers and straighteners, to the best shampoos and conditioners, hair products are a “trial and error” thing for me.

There are certain shampoos and conditioners I will never use again, like Pantene because it makes my hair feel sticky and sometimes dry (for some strange reason). However, OGX does wonders for my hair.

Keep in mind that just because certain products don’t work for me, doesn’t mean they won’t work for you. The same deal goes for products that do work for me.

Everyone’s hair is different. Some days my hair game is perfect. Other days I wish I could wear a baseball cap.

To say that my hair has a mind of its own is quite the understatement. Mine is supposed to be a tad wavy and many days I straighten it. Some days the straightener does nothing while other days it makes my hair super straight.

It just depends on the day.

Nevertheless, here are some products that I have tried recently:

Olive Oil Hair Lotion

Okay, so this one isn’t exactly new…but I figured it was time to share one of my biggest hair secrets.

I have been using olive oil hair lotions since high school. What’s interesting is that I usually find this in the “ethnic hair care” section and while my hair doesn’t exactly fit that category, I absolutely love it! After I finish taking a shower, I apply a quarter size amount to the ends of my hair and it helps keep the frizz low and my hair nice and soft.

Given that I have been using it for almost eight years, I definitely would say that I recommend it!

Dry Shampoo

So I tried dry-shampoo years ago and stopped because it was making my hair greasy. I decided the last month to give it another shot, and learned that I was using it incorrectly originally. Now that I’m using it the right way, this thing is my “go-to” if I don’t feel like washing my hair (if I worked out, I need to). The only thing that can be a pain is flipping my hair over on the top to make sure I spray most of my roots. It’s actually quite gross sometimes, flipping my part over and seeing oily hair there. The good part is that it makes it easier for me to know where to spray. I give this an A+!

Herbal Essences Blowout Smooth

As I said before, finding the perfect shampoo for my hair is a challenge. But this one seems to deserve the MVP Award lately.

In general, I love Herbal Essences,  but something about this one makes my hair just that much better. Plus, it makes my hair smell realllyyyyyy good 🙂

I think I have tried five different types of Herbal Essences shampoo/conditioner so far, and this one is my favorite. It’s specially made for a blowout, so that must be why my hair has such a nice flow to it after using it.

This Hair Curling Tool

This is kind of embarrassing, but I don’t actually recall the name of this hair curling tool. All I know is that it is a knock-off of the “Curl Secret” hair curler. If you type that into Amazon, it should come up.

Overall, I do like this product since it sucks your hair into the heading part for you. However, there are a few annoying parts about it.

First, you cannot make curls more than an inch in width. Even a little more and the hair will not properly take and curl. Second, because of this, it takes longer to curl the hair. While you can lower the temperature for looser curls, this tool doesn’t exactly save me time. I like how they come out, but it’s not the speediest tool. Especially the first time, it can take an hour to use it.

Keep in mind though, that my hair is thick. If you have thinner hair, it may not take as long.

Aside from those two small issues, I plan to continue using it…as long as I have an hour to do my hair.

Do you have any products that you absolutely love? Let me know in the comments below.
